Forever Young by lunaticvee27 Forever Young by lunaticvee27
An old quick sketch, found and resurrected into something fun, this is a pair of the most shamlessly ripped off characters to grace the Broken Gaming table (but we love them anyway), Ultra Inter-Galactic Cybot G Model Marina Mk 2 (aka "Marina" or "Mark 2"), and Servbot #43 (also just "43").

These crazy 'bots (and they are both robots, don't let Marina's pseudo-skin fool you) are my and :iconguywidathing:'s characters from a d20 Gammaworld game that was run during the summer of last year at some point, shortly after Broken Souls (the big year-long IK campaign starring the original Garrison's Grenadiers) ended (and by shortly, I mean the following week). It only lasted for a month or two before the D&D bug bit :iconkujkaudm: again and we put this one on pause, but it was great while it lasted, being chock full of unoriginal characters that were all too entertaining (I'll explain momentarily.).

Anyway, Marina here is the second, upgraded model of a series of obnoxiously named robot maids designed for their asthetic appeal, as well as their ability to shake the everliving fuck out of things (dunno why), a direct reference to Ultra Inter-Galactic Cybot G Marina, from the absolutely awesome Nintendo64 2.5d sidescroller, Mischief Makers. Basically, I took the original Marina's design (which is cool as all hell), and made it a bit more obnoxiously obviously designed by a damned pervert, complete with gel-suit armour (lolboobs). Hence, her absolutely ludicrous proportions and placid appearance. She had a somewhat blank personality, very mild and sweet, with no concept of most human anything, so sex jokes went over her head (or worse, she questioned the logistics of them), as well as most social graces. My personal favourite line from her:

"Don't discourage him." -- Cap'n
"So I should discourage him?" -- Marina
"Yes." -- Cap'n
"*turns to NPC* You suck." -- Marina

No concept, lol. She basically existed to be the straightman to 43, who she followed around because he was her best friend for no real reason other than he explains things she doesn't get. Hilarity often ensues.

43, however, was the firecracker of the party, and one of the funniest characters :iconguywidathing: has played to date. He's a children's toy, an action figure with all the tasty electronic AI goodness of pre-apoc children's toys, obviously based on Tron Bonne's Servbots from Mega Man Legends and its assorted spinoffs. He's foul-mouthed, insulting, has a distinct distaste for organic lifeforms (calling them "fleshies"), and loves to cook. He carries around a vegetable peeler which he threatens to shiv people with.

Thing is, the most beautiful thing about 43 is that he's still a Servbot, so he's all adorable sometimes, doing the usual adorable Servbot antics like dancing and stuff. However, the second he opens his mouth, he talks exactly like Boxy Brown from Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Exactly, deep voice, attitude, and all.

They're an inseparable pair, 43 keeping Marina out of trouble, and Marina protecting 43 when the shit goes down (she's a strong hero specialized in grappling, so she will grab you and shake you like a damned British nanny).

The quote in this comes from a quote from the game, actually, in which Marina was confused about people making fun of one of the party members, Cap'n, because he was older than the rest of them, calling him "geezer" and the such (though he was only like 30something, I think).

"Confusing terms used to refer to ageism?" -- Marina
"Don't worry, baby, we'll be young forever." -- 43

Cute. XD

Okay, now I promised I'd explain how the whole party was a group of ripoffs, so here it goes.

Player: Character; Reference - Explanation

Eoj: Nemo; Jeff Hardy - He was a hyper, daredevil cyber-kiddie who loved to get cybernetic parts. His hair was all rainbow-dyed and he shaved his facial hair weird and dressed in big pants, a wifebeater, and a towel hanging out the back of his pants. He basically looked (and acted) like a cybered out Jeff Hardy.
Me: Marina Mk II; Marina from Mischief Makers - Explained above
Doug: Servbot #43; Servbot from Mega Man - Explained above
Phawks: Ghost; Ghosts from Starcraft - He was a sniper with a penchant for stealth, and was trying desperately to scav enough goods to get himself a cloaking device and a railgun.
Bailey: Cap'n; Captain America - I shit you not, a mutant comic book fan who fought with a shield painted to look like Cap's. Was an upstanding guy.
Joe: Jack Russel; Wolfman By Night - He was a former soldier turned scientific experiment turned lupine moreau who ran with the dogmen despite how dumb they were.

And then Kirk played something somewhat original (a smug, somewhat evil bubble-boy human nanotech wizard).

Buzzkill, lol.

Finished 06/08/2008.
Done in Corel Painter Classic.

I can't wait 'til they put Marina in the next Smash Bros game...as a playable character.

Oh, I wish! Imagine her grab-throws! She would be better than SSB64 Ness!

Though I'm not holding my breath, unfortunately. What with the fact that Treasure only made one, it doesn't seem likely Nintendo will remember the BEST 3rd Party Game on the 64. Sigh.

Hmmmmm...*transforms into King Harkinan* How can we help Nintendo remember Mischief Makers?

Trick Question.

The answer is that SquareEnix would have to remember.

Both Mischief Makers (N64) and Rakugaki Showtime (on the PlayStation) are both titles developed by Treasure that were published under Enix.

Letter-writing is always a good idea, I suppose. Perhaps trying to reawaken any fandom it has. But hey, Mother has a huge fandom, and they're still not bringing Mother 1+2 and Mother 3 to the US.

Freaking tragedy.

That right there's her default face. XD

Thanks! The original linework was pencil, but the new stuff and everything else is all digital. Corel Painter has an awesome marker tool I use for most all of my shading. ^^
